Southbourne reach a County Final in their first season as an affiliated Short Mat bowls club. Winning five out of six group games earns them a place in the Final where they lose out to a Martlets & Slinfold Infinity combined team.

Congratulations to the Southbourne Bowls Club VP's team of John Staker, John A Lillywhite (skip), David Young and Jim Jennings who won the Terry Fitzgerald Trophy held at Norfolk B.C. on the 16th September.

Division One here we come! Finishing just three points behind Bognor was achieved with a fine run of results during the back half of the season. This is the second time the club has won promotion to the top flight of the Littlehampton Gazette League.

Sonia has become the first Lady member from Southbourne Club to hold the highest of honours at county level. The appointment as President of the Sussex County Women's Bowling Association is a privileged honour for both herself and our club.

The Southbourne Ladies team of Margaret, Margaret and Sonia have won the S.C.W.B.A. Benevolent Triples going one better than our Runners-Up in the same competition in 1999, well done Ladies.

Antony represented Sussex and Southbourne at this years National Singles Finals but unfortunately suffered the same early exit as Southbourne did in 2005 when he lost out in the morning session.

Congratulations to Southbourne Ladies for winning their second S.C.W.B.A. title. Haywards Heath B.C. was the venue to see Margaret Odell crowned this years winner of the Champion Of Champions.

For the second year running Southbourne B, C. have narrowly missed out on winning the S.C.B.A. Singles title. After a slow start Antony fought back to within a couple of shots against Eastbourne, only to narrowly loose out 21-18.

Southbourne's seventh and Robin's first appearance at the National Championships at Worthing was to be for just one game after he narrowly lost his opening singles match 21-18 to Berkshire.

A second County Singles for Southbourne B.C. was so nearly achieved at a sunny finals day in Hastings. Robin, entering the singles for the first time, lost 21-20 in the final against White Rock despite lying game on the second to last end.

Southbourne B.C. have gained promotion to Division One of the Gazette League in their debut season,  finishing narrowly behind Arundel B.C. Well done to all those players who have supported our first season in West Sussex's top bowls league.

 

S.C.B.A. CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS

At the County Finals held at Popes Mead B.C. Southbourne won the Champion of Champions for the second time in five years. Robin fought back to beat Hurstpierpoint 21-18 to win his first S.C.B.A. title.

 

Hotham Tens
2003 Winners

Southbourne B.C.

Victory in the Hotham Tens was achieved for the first time by winning three of the four disciplines in a tight contest against Chichester B.C. at Waterloo Square. Club Captain Bill Coates collected the winners cheque on behalf of the club.

A fitting reward for all of Tony's dedication and hard work as an International Umpire, has been his inclusion as one of the Officials at the 2002 Commonwealth Games to be held in Manchester.

Southbourne B.C. have won their 11th S.C.B.A. title by winning the Champion Of Champions for the first time. Antony played very well to control the final and run out a comfortable winner against Tarring Priory at Pope's Mead B.C.

It's an Antony and Southbourne Double in the S.C.B.A. U25 singles this year as the club and Antony lift the title for the second time, Antony has now won four County finals out of five appearances.

Southbourne Ladies have reached their second S.C.W.B.A. final their first since 1991. It didn't quite end up with the trophy coming home, but a very creditable Runners-Up.  Well done Ladies

Two years on from their fantastic run in the National Pairs, Paul and Antony were again back at Worthing with high hopes. Unfortunately unlike 1994, their involvement in the competition was short lived, losing on the first morning session.

Southbourne B.C. have won their 9th S.C.B.A. title with Antony lifting the U25 Singles title. With a Pairs final also reached this season, Antony has had a superb year.  Let's hope there is more to come in the future.

As in 1994 the County Finals were held at Preston B.C. and hopes were high of another Pairs title for Southbourne. But unlike two years ago, Paul and Antony missed out loosing a hard fought game against Lindfield B.C.

With all this years champions from the Home Counties competing it was always going to be a tough day at Croydon B.C. Paul and Antony did Sussex and Southbourne B.C. proud finishing as Runners-Up.

Congratulations to Paul and Antony on their run in the National Pairs Championships at Worthing with a couple of terrific wins on the first day and a brilliant performance in the last 16. Their hopes of a National medal were dashed losing out in a rain spoilt Quarter Final.

Southbourne's Triple of Andy, Colin and Paul made the long journey to Scotland to represent England in the British Isles Championships. They just missed out on the title on the last end, finishing Runners-Up to Northern Ireland.

After being crowned National Champions just the previous day there was only ever going to be one outcome in the County Final at Preston B.C. with Paul, Colin and Andy running out winners against Eastbourne B.C. What a fantastic double for Southbourne!

Well done boys! you are National Triples Champions! What a fantastic achievement by Paul, Colin and Andy. Victory in the Semi-Final came on the extra end, followed by a two shot win against Wiltshire in the final. The greatest day in the clubs 69 year history!

Southbourne B.C. are delighted to have qualified for the National Singles for the first time. Paul, who is the current Sussex champion battled hard in a very tight game only to lose out over the last few ends.

A second S.C.B.A. title was not to be for Southbourne B.C. this year as Worthing B.C. were victorious by eight shots in the Triples final. Well done to Colin, Paul and Andy on reaching the final of this event for the first time.

Southbourne B.C. have won their 5th S.C.B.A. title by winning the Singles at Worthing Pavilion B.C. Paul was crowned County Champion in a very close final beating Worthing B.C. 21-20

A county double for Paul and John at Preston B.C. was achieved with a brilliant win in the Pairs when they beat Preston B.C. in the final despite dropping a full house eight when leading by six shots!
