18.9.13 Short Mat Bowling at Southbourne B.C.
October see's the start of a new and challenging Short Mat season at Southbourne with a full fixture card providing opportunities for all members to participate.

Southbourne compete in the WSCSMBA winter league where successive promotions reward them with competition this year in County wide Division 2, against some of the Counties top bowlers and clubs!

A card of friendly fixtures has been arranged to complement the league fixtures. These games will provide the ideal opportunity for new players to adjust to the short mat game, and the experienced players to catch up with friends made during the last two seasons.

Southbourne also run a comprehensive set of club competitions. These are always well supported by the membership and are keenly contested. As each competition is played to a conclusion during a single afternoon, an extended commitment is not necessary; making them widely accessible. Look out for entry sheets posted in the club house.

New for this season is a Team Pairs League whereby teams of four or more will compete. This league will run throughout the season making full use of the spare slots in the fixture card. The teams have been formed combining experienced players with new players and has so far attracted more than twenty five participants. Any SBC member wishing to join in should contact either the competition secretary or any of the team captains.

If that's not enough, Southbourne regularly support the wide range of National and County competitions organised by the WSCSMBA. These competitions provide the pinnacle of short mat bowling and can be entered by any registered member.

SBC members should contact the Short Mat Secretary for more information on Short Mat bowling.
Queries on membership to Southbourne Bowls club should be directed to the Club Secretary

For your information. The Short Mat Team League fixtures and results can be viewed via the Notice Board page.

This first session will be used to establish the opinions of our members as to the future of this format of the game at Southbourne Bowls Club. All members are welcome.
It is intended that the first few Sunday sessions will be run as an 'Open Mat' format and later, if interest is sufficient, to run some club competitions and fixtures.
Full affiliation to West Sussex County Short Mat Bowling Association could follow, allowing County and National competition entries etc. League teams could then follow in 2011/12.
This pilot scheme is seen as yet another avenue of growth and enables us to offer a complete year of bowling for members of Southbourne Bowls Club.

So, come along and give it a try!
